i want to share my first experience as facilitator of regional training. i write it in english cause i want to practice my english skill on writing for my ILETS test soon. o sorry for wrong tenses ets. here it is.....
oh my God, i was never expect can conduct reginonal TOT. as i already told you, in 2012 i was participated on TOT that hold by APF (Asia Pacific Forum). In the beginning of 2013, they contacted me to propose be co facilitator on next TOT with one of alumna TOT 2012 (Desi from New Zealand). it was big chalenge for my capability as facilitator, also as NHRI's staff. the other chalenge was (and is) my languange skill. My english skill was not excelent, i never practiced it too because i prefer practiced my french by took course. but in the other side, i also saw it as chance to develop my capability, so i took this chalenge.
i will deliver TOT with Suraina, Desi and will be lead by Chris Sidoti, my believe master. i was so happy can join this team. we started prepare TOT with made several discussion by email. Desi suggested to change the method on face to face workshop and we agreed with his idea. in my TOT, every participants will conduct their own session, but in this TOT we ask them to conduct session as team (2-3 participants @ team).
then APF formally gave invitation to al NHRI members. but not all NHRI indicate want to join this TOT. only 11 NHRI who propose their staff. in the end of online process, NHRI of india propose to send one of their staff. of course we need to discuss it first, then we decide to gave chance but he must did all task.
participants who finish task will be invited to face to face workshop. unfortunately this TOT did not have participants as much as first TOT. but we still believed that training would goes well. there were 2 observer too, from AUSAID and CIDA. participants from AUSAID finally be participants too because she felt interest with this training.
Like previous TOT, we asked participants to give interactive presentation. Day by day must be better. so among participants and facilitator also could learn new method or learning games.
At first day was review sessions. participants divided to several groups for prepare review using interactive method. After that, facilitator allowed them to finished their sessions plan in group. At second day, teams start conducted their session. First team using colourful ppt and engaged participants. Second team using multi media (video, ppt etc) in their session. Tips for facilitator if using video, we must check video can be played before our presentation and not depent on internet connection.
Third day, there was only one team who conduct session. It was about universal periodic review. Team's presentation was informative and they also did assesment to participants. Lesson learn on that day was we need to get alternative way on explaining substance without ppt. Fourth day, the first team also did assesment and quiz as opening. The team can showed how to handle dominant participants. The next team using flipcharting and study case. It was help participants to understand the topic. In the end of the day, facilitator divided participants in 2 group and asked them to conduct another session as big team with participatory methods. And in the last day they conducted their session very well and engaging,
TOT 2013 also provided optional accreditation 'master trainer' to whom who can fullfil the requirements. There were 2 participants who can achieve it, from India and New Zealand. So now there are 10 master trainer in Asia-Pacific. APF will involve master trainers in their work, training or to developing modules, so it can increased our skill's in human rights education's field.
